The silence of our classrooms has been shattered. Within just 48 hours, the tragic events in Siverek (Şanlıurfa) and Onikişubat (Kahramanmaraş) have left our nation in mourning. As the deadliest school shooting in Turkish history, the Kahramanmaraş incident—where ten lives were lost—marks a dark milestone that we cannot simply “move past.”

At STARTINFORUM, we believe that offering condolences is not enough. We must dissect the roots of this violence and fundamentally restructure the psychological and social environment of our schools.

The Anatomy of a Crisis: Why Now?

While investigations are ongoing, initial patterns reveal deep-seated vulnerabilities that have long been ignored:

  • The Digital Echo Chamber: In both cases, evidence points toward digital radicalization and the influence of violent online subcultures (including “incel” and “copycat” ideologies).

  • The “Invisible” Crisis: Perpetrators are often described as “random” or “quiet,” highlighting a failure in our ability to detect silent cries for help or escalating resentment before it turns to violence.

  • Accessibility of Violence: The use of unsecured domestic firearms underscores a critical need for parental accountability and stricter community safety standards.

The Need for a New Educational Paradigm

The current model of “security” often begins and ends at the school gate. We believe the true security of a school is found in its relationships and psychological climate. We are calling for:

  1. Early Diagnostic Systems: Moving beyond traditional exams to include “social-emotional wellness tracking.” We must identify students who are withdrawing or displaying aggressive shifts in their learning outcomes early.

  2. Psychological Deep-Dives: Our educational practices must be audited. Are we creating environments of high-pressure competition that isolate students, or communities of belonging that protect them?

  3. Parent-Teacher Synergy: A teacher cannot be the only line of defense. We need a tri-sectoral approach where parents, educators, and psychological experts maintain a constant “Dialogue of Safety.”

Our Commitment: Professional Support for Schools

STARTINFORUM is ready to act as a bridge during this recovery period. We are opening our doors to provide:

  • Crisis Intervention Workshops: Dedicated sessions for school management and teachers on identifying early “red flag” behaviors in students.

  • Parental Guidance Frameworks: Helping families understand digital safety and how to foster emotional resilience at home.

  • The “Safe Dialogue” Initiative: Specialized psychological support programs designed specifically for the affected regions and any school seeking to fortify their mental health infrastructure.

  • Psychological Analysis and Training Interventions: School – Students – Teachers – Parents.
