Artist Statement
The war in Ukraine began in 2014 with the occupation of Crimea and the onset of military operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched another attempt at occupation that continues to this day.
As the largest and most destructive conflict in Europe since World War II, this war has claimed countless lives, displaced millions. Its devastation reverberates across the entire globe. This war unties the hands of dictators who, by threatening nuclear weapons, can violate any laws, while global containment measures prove entirely ineffective. Today, we find ourselves in a new reality where the values and measures established during World War II no longer work, and we are falling back into a spiral of hell once again.
This is a crisis the world cannot afford to ignore. My work explores how war ruins our basic human values and resets our moral growth. My aim is to reconnect people through empathy and push back against the habit of staying silent. Art is my way of speaking out, because when we turn a blind eye to suffering, we become part of the problem.

Description: On June 6, 2023, the Russian military blew up the Kakhovka Dam. Floods submerged 80 settlements, including Kherson, disrupting the water supply for over one million people across four regions and endangering their primary future source of fresh water. Furthermore, by eliminating the reactor cooling water for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, it created the risk of a new Chernobyl disaster. As the dam waters receded, the remains of World War II German soldiers were exposed on the floor of the Kakhovka Reservoir. This situation was conceptualized as a physical trace where historical and contemporary destructions intersect. A helmeted skull form rising from a concrete mass brings together the devastation of today and the remains of the past on a single surface. By consolidating past and present violence into one body, the work makes the generational wreckage of war visible, serving as a reminder that war is a recurring sediment that accumulates on humanity through time.

Description: “Tanks have been symbols of aggressive warfare and terror since World War I; by nature, they are offensive vehicles and the primary driving force behind advancing into foreign territories. I have reduced this symbol down to a single individual component that drives and propels this entire massive mechanism. In doing so, I want to demonstrate how immense suffering and anguish can originate from just a single part.”

Description: “Beyond being a mere act of brutality, war is an ontological crisis that radically rejects all the intellectual and moral progress humanity has built since the Renaissance. It hurls us back into primitive, prehistoric modes of existence and barbaric impulses where the sanctity of life and modern human values have not yet taken root. Unfortunately, every conflict instrumentalizes human beings—first reducing a person to a ‘resource’, and ultimately to an ordinary object. In this work, however, the human figure goes beyond objectification, transforming into a completely faded piece of the landscape whose very existence goes unnoticed.”
